“Book” prices for antiques?
There are many books around that list prices for antiques, but almost everyone says “You can’t expect to get ‘book’ prices for things.” This begs the question: “Then why publish price guides?” What percentage can one expect to sell off of the “book” price?
Book prices list what the item is valued at. You may or may not get the book price listed because of what is popular at the time. Sometimes an item may be worth $100.00, but since it is not a popular collectible it may only sell at half that price, or if it is a popular collectible it could sell at maybe three times the listed value. Book lists are more for insurance values. They will give you a good estimate if you are wanting to sell though.
